Care of your Ferrite Magnets

Important product safety information relating to Ferrite magnets.

Ferrite is a heavy, economical material produced using a combination of Iron, Zinc, Barium and/or Strontium. Due to the sintering process of manufacturing, special care must be taken to ensure safety when handling or storing these magnets.


  • Mechanical Shock:
Magnets are brittle and may damage easily.
WARNING - DO NOT:
...drop the magnet onto a hard surface.
...allow magnets
to smash together in an uncontrolled fashion.
...allow the magnet to smash together with metal.
...strike with tools, or attempt to machine cut.


  • Temperature:
Maximum operating temperature of the magnets is 180°C. Exposure to temperatures above these maximum limits may lead to loss of magnetic coercivity.
Store and use magnets in a cool environment to prevent demagnetisation.

  • Moisture:
Ferrite magnets are not particularly suscepitble to corrosion. For further protection, apply a protective coating of adhesive sealant or similar to all exposed areas.
Although product discolouration may occur over time, this does not affect the quality of the magnet.

  • Demagnetisation:
Ferrite magnets will gradually suffer diminished coercivity if subjected to repeated mechanical shock, or excess temperatures.
Your Ferrite magnet may be demagnetised by "Rare Earth" permanent magnets. Do not store together.
