Surface condition changes everything: paint, powdercoat, rust, dirt and thin or curved steel all reduce the hold, in some cases by more than half.\u003cbr\u003e- \u003cstrong\u003eA loaded shelf is the hardest thing you can ask a magnet to do.\u003c\/strong\u003e The shelf reaches 150mm out from the wall, so weight sitting on it acts as a lever trying to peel the magnets off along their top edge, and peel is the direction a magnet is weakest in by a wide margin. The rated figure above is pull straight off clean bare steel, which is a different and far easier load.
