Description

Our 3M VHB 5952 double sided adhesive circles are a heavy duty foam tape option for mounting magnets where a thin transfer dot is not enough. Each circle is precision-cut to 10mm diameter from genuine 3M VHB 5952, a 1.1mm thick black acrylic foam tape.

The conformable foam core fills small gaps and irregularities between the magnet and the mounting surface, giving more real contact area than a thin film adhesive. VHB 5952 is designed to bond a wide range of surfaces, including metals, painted and powder coated finishes, glass and many plastics.

- 10mm diameter, 1.1mm thick
- Black acrylic foam: discreet behind dark or black magnets
- Conformable: suits slightly textured or uneven surfaces
- No release tab: lift the liner from the edge to peel
- Weather resistant: suitable for indoor and outdoor use once fully cured

Getting the best bond
VHB is a pressure sensitive adhesive, so how it is applied makes a big difference to the final strength.
- Clean: both surfaces must be clean, dry and free of oil, dust and release agents. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol (a 50:50 mix of IPA and water works well) and allow to dry fully.
- Scuff: on smooth, glossy or coated surfaces, a light scuff with fine abrasive paper (around 180 to 320 grit) gives the adhesive more to grip. Clean again after scuffing to remove the dust.
- Pressure: once in position, press the magnet down firmly and evenly for several seconds. Firm pressure is what brings the adhesive into full contact with the surface, so do not just place it and walk away.
- Temperature: apply at room temperature, ideally between 21°C and 38°C. Application below 10°C is not recommended, as the adhesive becomes too firm to flow into the surface.
- Cure time: the bond keeps building after application, reaching roughly 50% of its strength after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and full strength after 72 hours. Avoid loading the magnet (sticking it to steel, pulling it off, or hanging weight from it) for at least 24 hours, ideally 72.

Holding strength: we have not yet determined the maximum magnet pull strength these circles can reliably hold before the adhesive fails. We are running pull tests to find the adhesive failure point for each size and will update this listing once that data is available. In the meantime, allow a generous safety margin with strong magnets, or contact us for advice on your application.

Common uses:
- Mounting disc and block magnets to painted, powder coated or lightly textured surfaces
- Signage, displays, point of sale and shop fittings
- Fixing magnets into enclosures, cabinetry, models and DIY projects where a thicker, more forgiving adhesive layer is needed
